OSAT- Journalism Exams are required for the candidates for teaching Journalism in the state of Oklahoma. The content for the exam is prepared as per the full subject matter competencies and based on national standards. The test analysis candidate’s knowledge, expertise, and skills in the field of Journalism.

Eligibility for OSAT Journalism Exam Study Guide


Candidates must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for appearing in the OSAT Journalism Exam-

  • Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college/university that has an approved program.
  • Must have a major in the field of study- Journalism.
  • Meet the standards set by the State Board of Education in Oklahoma.

Syllabus of OSAT Journalism Exam


The syllabus of the OSAT journalism exam covers the following four subareas-

  • The social context of Journalism- 18%
  • Aspects related to Written communication in Journalism- 12%
  • Visual communication in Journalism & Radio and Television broadcasting- 24%
  • Production and management of student publications worth- 31%

MCQs or selected response sections of the exam are based on these subareas. Journalism encompasses more than just writing skills, therefore candidates are required to learn the conduct related to proper research, identification of the source, and how to communicate unbiased professional notes.

Format of OSAT Journalism Exam


OSAT Journalism exam is based on the following aspects-

  • OSAT journalism exam is based on 80 MCQ or selected-response questions and 1 constructed-response question.
  • Weightage for selected-response questions is approximately 85% and constructed response questions are 15% of the test value.
  • The exam is a computer-based test (CBT).
  • The allotted time to complete the exam for candidates is 4 hours plus 15 minutes CBT tutorial.

Score of OSAT Journalism Exam


A passing score of 240 is required to qualify for the OSAT exam for Journalism. The subject area involves randomly selected questions chosen by Oklahoma educators and they are validated by separate panels of educators.
