HSPT - High School Placement Test Study Guide


The high school placement test or formally called as the HSPT exam is a standardized test that is often used by the private and catholic high schools to evaluate the admission process to their schools though this may not apply to all private and catholic schools.

HSPT - High School Placement Test Exam Structure & Format  


The high school placement test is divided into five sections that examine the skills of the candidates in

  • Verbal problems
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Quantitative aptitude
  • Reading

The total time allotted to finish the exam is around two and half hours and in total the exam consists of 298 questions. The verbal section includes sixty questions and lasts for around sixteen minutes. The mathematics section has 64 questions that are to be completed in 45 minutes. The language section has 60 questions required to be solved in 25 minutes. The quantitative section lasts for 30 minutes and has 52 questions. The last section of reading includes 62 questions and continues for 25 minutes.

The students are not penalized for the incorrect answers. Each school specifies its own passing score and the students are required to achieve that score to enter a high school.
