TExES Journalism 7-12 (256) Exam has been designed to test the candidate’s knowledge and ability to perform while teaching Journalism subjects in Texas Public Schools. The exam is meant to evaluate the teaching practices meant for Grade 7 through Grade 12.

Eligibility for TExES Journalism 7-12 (256) Exam


To be eligible to appear for the exam, a candidate must have completed a bachelor’s degree in journalism from a recognized college/university.

The syllabus for the exam is covered from the following core areas of Journalism-

  • Mass media and communication- 28% (Weightage)
  • Standards Assessed- Journalism 7-12, I-II
  • Journalistic writing and Photojournalism- 32% (Weightage)
  • Standards Assessed- Journalism 7–12 III–IV, VI
  • Student Produced Media- 20% (Weightage)
  • Standards Assessed- Journalism 7–12 V, VII
  • Journalism in the school community- 20% (Weightage)
  • Standards Assessed- Journalism 7–12 VIII–IX

    There are a total of I-IX standards that are covered and candidates need to prepare accordingly.

    Format of TExES Journalism 7-12 (256) Exam


    • A computer-based exam with 100 questions.
    • The examination is MCQ or selected response-based.
    • The allotted time for the candidates to complete the exam is 5 hours.
    • Testing time is 4 hours 45 minutes

    Candidates can avail the appointment for the exam at their convenience as the exam can be taken around the year. Examination sites are located in Texas and across the nation. Candidates can locate the test center site online. Candidates are required to score a minimum of 240 marks to qualify for the exam & scores are available at 10 pm Central time. The examination fee for the exam is USD 116.

    When candidates register for the exam they must abide by all the program rules and policies.

    • During the registration process, cash and cheques are not accepted. Candidates must make the payment using valid credit or debit card.

    Before submission:

    • Candidates are required to review the instructions mentioned carefully.
    • They must create an account and register for the exam. If candidates want to request alternative arrangements they should indicate the same when prompted by the system.
    • Post this candidate needs to submit the payment.
