The Nelson Denny Exam


Nelson-Denny Test was first developed in 1929. The examination is used as an indicator for students who have trouble with reading so they can be evaluated with respect to future reading progress and academic achievement.

Format For The Nelson Denny Exam


The Nelson Denny Reading test is given in a group format and total time allotted is 45 minutes including instruction time.

The Nelson Denny exam has two sub tests:

Vocabulary:

This sub test consists of 80 multiple- choice questions and test content covers words taken from high school and college textbooks.

Reading Comprehension:

In this subtest the candidates are provided with 5 short passages to read, followed by 38 multiple choice questions based on the passage. The total score of the candidate is derived by adding the vocabulary score and the comprehension score.
