Primary Secondary School CHSPE - California High School Proficiency Exam Study Guide


All the students who have completed tenth grade or are getting enrolled in second semester of their tenth grade are eligible to take the California high school proficiency exam or CHSPE. All those who pass this CHSPE exam has the opportunity to move to a community college of their choice.

Format for CHSPE - California High School Proficiency Exam

The CHSPE exam lasts for two and half hours. No assisting devices like calculators are allowed in the examination centre. Apart from the English writing section the complete examination is in the multiple choice question format. The candidates are tested over their skills and knowledge in English and mathematics. The English section has a writing section and apart from that there are 84 multiple choice questions evaluating the students for reading comprehension skills, interpretation of data, grammar, sentence formation and structure and vocabulary knowledge. The maths section is again multiple choice featuring 50 questions based on algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, pattern and problem solving skills.

The candidates are required to pass both the sections in order to pass the exam. If the candidate has passed one section but hasnt passed the other section then in next attempt he only has to attempt the second section alone. The candidates can take on the CHSPE as many times as they want.
