Certified Professional Organizer Exam Study Guide
The Certified Professional Organizer (CPO) designation was developed by the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals® and is conducted by the Board of Certification for Professional Organizers (BCPO). This certification program recognizes those professionals who have met specific minimum qualifications and have proven through examination and client communications that they possess knowledge and experience required for certification.
If members of the public are going to hire an individual or company to enter their private work or living space, it is appropriate for them to care about the credentials of this person. Only those Professional Organizers and Productivity Consultants who are in good standing with their CPO credentials are listed in the directory as a CPO.
Eligibility for CPO Exam
BCPO will audit a certain percentage of all applications. In the event of an audit, the candidate must be prepared to provide supporting documentation for these requirements.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- You must agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics for Certified Professional Organizers.
- A total of 1,500 hours of paid work experience conducted in the five (5) years prior to applying to take the exam.
Application Fees for CPO Exam
$450 is required for application form which is non refundable. The Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF) is $100 USD per year

- Preliminary Communication (e.g., qualifying interview), 10%
- Preliminary Assessment, 25%
- Follow Up and Maintenance, 8%
- Legal and Ethical Responsibilities, 7%
