PECT PreK-4 Exam
PECT- Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests was created in 2010, to offer assessments to ensure that the candidates undertaking the test must possess the required knowledge. These tests were conducted to analyze the performance and competencies of candidates to become certified Pennsylvania Educators. PDE- Pennsylvania Department of Education developed this program with help of the Evaluation System group of Pearson and Pennsylvania Educators.
The PECT PreK-4 exam covers the topics related to PreK Grade 4th including child and literacy development.
Eligibility for PECT PreK-4 Exam
The undergraduate candidates interested in taking up the PECT PreK-4 exam must have qualified for the basic skills assessment exam like the PAPA- Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment.
Candidates who have completed Post Graduation as well as who are advanced degree holders are not required to take up the basic skills assessment exam.
Syllabus for PECT PreK-4 Exam
The syllabus for the PECT PreK-4 Exam covers the following topics-
Module 1
- Child Development, Learning, and assessment: Covers 60% of the module.
- Collaboration and Professionalism: Covers 40% of the module.
Module 2
- Language and literacy development- Covers 66% of the module.
- Social Studies, Arts and humanities- Covers 34% of the module.
Module 3
- Mathematics, Science, and Health.
Format of PECT PreK-4 Exam
The PreK-4 assessment includes 3 modules and candidates are required to take and qualify all three modules for receiving Pennsylvania Teacher Certification.
- It is a computer-based and online-proctored test with selected-response items.
- Module 1- 36 selected-response items.
- Module 2- 45 selected-response items.
- Module 3- 45 selected-response items.
Allotted time and online proctoring provided to the candidates for each module is-
- Module 1- 45 minutes testing time.
- Module 2- 75 minutes testing time.
- Module 3- 90 minutes testing time.
- Tutorial and NDA agreement- 15 minutes.

- Candidates must bring in an active, Government issued ID card. Copies for the same won't be accepted.
- Electronics, cell phones, bags, and calculators are not allowed in the testing areas.
- An onscreen calculator is provided for module 3.
Note- At the testing center candidates can take restroom breaks and it is considered as part of the available testing time. 15 minutes break in between each module if all 3 are taken together.
How to Apply for the PECT PreK-4 Exam?
Candidates can apply for the exam through appointment all year round. If done through online proctoring then it is to be executed by appointment during the one-week testing window that is provided each month.
Test Site location- Computer-based testing sites are available in Pennsylvania, nationwide, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Canada.
Scores for PECT PreK-4 Exam
There is a minimum qualifying criterion for each module and it includes-
Preliminary test results are made available after the completion of the test session. Online Proctoring- Results or the score report are made available within 10 business days after the test completion.
