Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments


MEGA- Missouri Educator Gateway Assessment, tests measure the educator candidates' ability in terms of content and knowledge. This program is aligned with Missouri and National Standard & is considered as an integral part of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reform.

Typically, there are three Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments-

  • Paraprofessional Exam
  • The Missouri Educator Profile: MEP
  • Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)

The deadline for the exam registration for all MEGA administrations is just 2 business days before the exam date and not later than that. Candidates must register for the exam in advance and provide proof of payment.

Paraprofessional Exam

Paraprofessional Exam is an internet-based exam that involves around 90 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time limit for the candidates to complete the exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes. 15 minutes for the tutorial and NDA & 2 hours as the testing time.

Appointments for the exam date are available around the year on a first-come-first-served basis. The Paraprofessional exam is a single exam and has to be taken accordingly. Candidates can register online through the MoGEA website and can create an account for the exam. $41 is the required fee for the exam that is payable online.

The Missouri Educator Profile: MEP

This assessment is purely conducted online and is not used for admission to any program. It is typically a survey that can be taken at the candidate's convenience from any computer. This is not offered at the testing center. The results are presented in the development report so that the candidates can understand how their current work habits areas compared to those of effective educators. Based on these, the candidates can develop and enhance the work habits further. Though MEP is not a requirement, some preparation programs may instruct or encourage the candidates to complete the MEP.

It must be completed within 365 days of registration.

Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)

This test replaces the C-Base exam and can be taken in place of an acceptable ACT score which covers BSED and BME teacher candidates. As per the latest information on July 1, 2019 students who wish to enter Missouri State University for the teacher certification program can make use of either the composite score of 20 or ACT or a passing score on 4 subsets of MoGEA. Candidates can take the MoGEA exam in its entirety or as individual sections. Candidates can register online. The applicable fee is USD 59 if all the batteries of the exam are taken together and USD 25 for each sub-test.

The four subset includes-

  • Reading Comprehension and interpretation – 39 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Mathematics – 40 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Science and Social Studies – 40 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Writing – 1 Writing Assignment

Test Results

MoGEA

The passing scores of the exam are set by the Missouri State Board of Education and the candidates must pass all 4 subtests. Score reports are released on the MoGEA website as scheduled.

Paraprofessional

The passing scores for the Paraprofessional exam are currently 220. Score reports are released within the 3 weeks of the test taken.

The Individual educational institutions may set up their qualifying scores which could be even higher as set by the Missouri State Board of Education. Candidates must contact the respective State Institution to determine the applicable scores required to qualify for the exam.

Disability Accommodations

The testing center offers 3 private accommodation testing rooms that are available through reservation only. Candidates who need disability accommodations are required to contact the disability resource center for Missouri state university. Non-Missouri state university can contact the testing center directly.

Requirements for taking the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments

  • Candidates must register in advance as some exams require payment for the test as well as the sitting fee.
  • They must provide proof of registration and/or sitting fee.
  • They must present all the ID proof as submitted online.
  • They must present a photo ID and additional identification as required by the specific exam during the check-in.
  • No personal belongings are allowed in the test room and the lockers with combination locks are provided in the waiting area.
  • Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited in the testing centers. It also includes CDs, CD-ROMs, USB drives, and other storage media.
  • Candidates would be under continuous physical/electronic surveillance.
  • Must maintain a quiet examination environment and must refrain from creating any distraction.

The State Department of Elementary and Secondary education has developed this comprehensive approach to analyze and assess the preparation of the candidates who wish to teach in Missouri. MEGA is a series of assessments that tests the knowledge and capabilities of prospective teachers, principals, superintendents. The goal is to assess and help improve the pre-professionals development who are interested in earning the educator certification for their better prospects.
