AEPA Theater Exam


AEPA- Arizona Educator Proficiency Examinations (AEPA) involves a series of tests for individuals who are keen to earn teaching certification in Arizona. Depending upon the level and subject the teachers wish to teach, they appear for different examinations. AEPA tests are computer-based and are easily available at Pearson test centers throughout Arizona and the overall United States. The tests are conducted to review if the teachers have the necessary knowledge to teach students in the Arizona public school system. The tests under AEPA are conducted for different fields and theatre is one of them.

Eligibility for AEPA Theatre Exam


In order to be eligible for AEPA Theatre Exam, you must have received an approved teaching certificate from within the state or out-of-the-state authority. You must have also earned a Bachelor’s degree in a field that is related to education for grades 8-12 from an approved program. If you are taking the exam with a Bachelor’s degree or higher then you must apply to receive a temporary teaching certificate.

The AEPA exam varies depending upon what specific type of position you are interested in to become a certified educator within the Arizona school system.

Syllabus of AEPA Theater Exam


AEPA Theater Exam involves 4 sub areas-

  • Playwriting, Performance, and Direction of Dramatic Works--It tests objectives if the educator's are able to understand principles of playwriting and dramatic structure, acting, and direction.
  • Theater History and Dramatic Literature--Tests if the educator's understand the history of drama and theater, dramatic literature of the United States, and dramatic literature from other cultural traditions.
  • Design, Production, and Management of Dramatic Works--Tests understanding of production and management of theatrical performances, costumes, and lighting design.
  • Theater Education--It tests understanding of principles of theater education.

Format of AEPA Theatre Exam


The Theater test is a customized certification test specifically designed to measure educator’s knowledge and skills with respect to Arizona learning standards. If you want to teach Theater in Arizona, you will have to pass and earn that position through the AEPA Theater Exam.

For appearing in the test, you can sign up for a computer-based test which is available around the year. A passing score is required to clear the exam and it is 240. Testers are given two hours and forty-five minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. Scores of the test are released within 1-4 weeks from the date of the test taken.
